Elon Musk has revealed that Tesla plans to release its next-generation electric vehicles, including a significantly cheaper electric car, in late 2025.
At Tesla's 2023 Investor Day in March, the firm introduced a new automobile manufacturing method that CEO Elon Musk said will be faster, more efficient, and allow for cheaper electric vehicle production.
Tesla calls it the "Unboxed Process":
The main concept is that Tesla wants to be able to work on different portions of the vehicle separately and only put the automobile together at a new "more final" assembly.
It varies from the more typical automotive production process in that the complete vehicle body is moved down a line until it reaches the final assembly.
Tesla's next-generation vehicles, including a lower "$25,000 model" and a robotaxi, are slated to be the first to employ this new system.
Musk provided a quick update on the schedule for Tesla's next-generation automobiles when the company's Q4 2023 earnings were released.
Elon Musk, the CEO of Tesla, mentioned that the company's current "tentative" internal timeline for starting production of its next-generation vehicles is in "late 2025." He advised caution in interpreting this timeline, acknowledging that various factors could potentially impact it negatively. This statement followed a Reuters report suggesting that Tesla aimed to commence production in "mid-2025."
Musk also highlighted the anticipated difficulty of the production ramp-up for these vehicles. He explained that Tesla opted to initiate production at Gigafactory Texas, where the company's engineering team is located, rather than at the upcoming Gigafactory Mexico.
According to information from Musk's authorized biography, these next-generation vehicles are expected to have a futuristic appearance similar to the Cybertruck.
