Ohio's largest solar farm

Now that the first phase of Ohio's largest solar farm is operational, clean power is being sent to the grid.

Fox Squirrel Solar, a 577 megawatt (MW) facility, is located in Madison County, west of Columbus. It consists of three phases: the 177 MW Fox Squirrel 3, which is planned to go online at the end of the year, the 250 MW Fox Squirrel 2, which is anticipated to go online in mid-2024, and the 150 MW Fox Squirrel 1, which is now online. After construction is finished, it will provide enough clean electricity to run 118,000 households.

Not only is Fox Squirrel Solar the biggest solar farm in Ohio, but it is also the biggest onshore sustainable energy project designed and constructed by EDF Renewables North America. It includes 159 inverters and 1.4 million solar panels overall. 650 workers installed 10,000 solar panels a day during Phase 1's busiest development.

Enbridge, a Canadian energy firm, made an investment in Phase 1 and intends to decide on its final Phase 2 investment later in the year. The project has obtained 20-year fixed-price power purchase agreements with a "strong investment grade counterparty" for the whole generation capacity, according to EDF Renewables North America.

The Buckeye State is likely to see significant growth, according to the Solar Energy Industries Association (SEIA). Currently ranked 22nd in the US for solar capacity, it is predicted to add 8,960 MW over the next five years to move up to the top spot.
