In April, the upcoming Hunter EV pickup will be launched by JAC, the former manufacturer for NIO. This all-electric pickup is equipped with a dual electric motor drivetrain and boasts a considerable CLTC range exceeding 310 miles (500 km).

JAC, which previously collaborated with NIO in building electric vehicles, recently sold two manufacturing plants and associated assets to NIO. This transaction has enabled NIO to take control of its production processes. Moreover, NIO has gained entry into China's MIIT vehicle manufacturing enterprise information management system, granting the company the ability to produce EVs under its own brand. Previously, NIO had relied on JAC's qualifications for the co-production of EVs at two facilities, involving payments for contract manufacturing.

Having divested assets, JAC appears poised to embark on a significant venture of its own. The highly anticipated Hunter EV pickup from the automaker is scheduled for its official debut at the Beijing Auto Show in April. According to reports from Chinese news outlet Autohome, the electric truck will be constructed on JAC's new wide-body pickup platform, offering an impressive CLTC cruising range of more than 310 miles (500 km).

Meet the Hunter EV pickup

The car has undergone updates since its Guangzhou Auto Show preview. A redesigned front face with split headlights and a closed grille are highlighted in the report.

The dimensions of JAC's Hunter EV pickup are 1.97 m (78 78), 1.92 m (76 76), and 5.62 m (221 l) in length. To give you an idea, that is almost the same dimensions as the Toyota Tacoma, which is 212–226 inches long, 78 inches wide, and 75 inches tall.

Additionally, the new electric pickup will have a 1.81 m (~ 6 foot) "extra-long" cargo bed. That and the Toyota Tacoma are around the same size.

The Hunter EV pickup has 205 mm (8′′) of ground clearance, making it capable of handling any terrain. The truck has a modern EV appearance thanks to its 18-inch "dragon-scale" alloy wheels.

"Generous driving space" and a T-shaped infotainment system with a 7-inch LCD instrument panel are features of the cabin.

In addition, it has a 3.0 in-car system, dual-mode navigation, OTA updates, a 220V power supply, "super wireless fast charging," and other features.

A twin motor system with a maximum power of 70/160 kW and a maximum torque of 176/342 Nm powers the new EV pickup. Its 500 km (310 mi) CLTC range is provided by its 88.02 kWh battery. In China, it will compete with Changan Lanou EV and the Cannon EV from Great Wall.
